SPRING Data Center Network

The purpose of the SPRING infrastructure is to provide an agile, high-performance, and resilient network across UGA’s datacenters. Since 2015, this project has been operated by UGA’s DGD-SI and managed by a technical committee composed of around fifteen IT specialists from the DGD-SI, research laboratories, academic departments, and various campus entities.

It is closely linked to the datacenter technical committee, as it is responsible for providing network connectivity to the servers hosted in its facilities. It also provides the network layer for all UGA site-wide services: CIMENT, FALL, NOVA, SUMMER, WINTER, and gricad-gitlab.

It offers high performance and supports multiple configuration options:

  • Access ports (server connections) at 1, 10, 25, 40, and 100 Gbit/s
  • A fully redundant core network operating at 40 and 100 Gbit/s
  • Layer 3 (routed) interconnection with the UGA backbone
  • Layer 2 (VLAN) or Layer 3 interconnection options with other entities
  • The ability to connect servers to two separate switches using link aggregation, ensuring redundancy in the event of a switch failure or network interface card failure

  • For standard usage : Included in the infrastructure fees under the various service offerings
