Digital services

The UAR GRICAD offers services related to computing and data. The unit manages its own infrastructures and participates in the site’s infrastructures.

Access to GRICAD’s own services is open to all academic researchers at the EPE Université Grenoble Alpes, see the eligibility section.

Details of the access policy are given below.

Digital offer

Service access policy

GRICAD services are freely accessible to all academic researchers on the Grenoble site who are members of a UGA EPE institution and to all their collaborators on research projects (with the exception of audiovisual production services, which are subject to a charge).

They may also be open to the private sector on an ad hoc basis in certain cases, particularly in the case of joint research projects with academic researchers, or as part of the SIMSEO initiative in which GRICAD and MaiMoSiNe are partners.

Access to the infrastructures is subject to acceptance of the IT charters.

The platforms may be shut down for maintenance or in the event of incidents. Service may deteriorate during university holidays, and the support service is not provided at weekends or on public holidays.

Access is free, but in the event of heavy use, we encourage financial and human participation in these shared infrastructures:

  • Purchase of servers (computing, storage, etc.)
  • Purchase of computing hours
  • Financing in the form of operation or investment
  • Help for the teams in charge of infrastructure administration and/or support

Terms and conditions of access

Depending on your situation, the procedures are as follows. As a reminder, you can request an access account via the user portal.

You are a new project owner

  • You don’t have any access account

You must first request a GRICAD access account. Your eligibility will be checked at that time. You must also accept the user charter.

  • You have an access account

You must then request the creation of a project with which a project group will be associated. You will then be able to add members to your project group and grant access rights to the corresponding calculation resources. The conditions for creating and renewing projects are described in the next paragraph (Project management).

You are a user whishing to join an existing project

  • You don’t have any access account

You must first request a GRICAD access account. Your eligibility will be checked at that time. You must also accept the user charter.

  • You have an access account

You must ask the project leader to add you to his or her project group. The list of projects and project leaders can be obtained in your personal space.

Projects management

At least once a year and for each project, project promoters must carry out an update which consists of :

  • Validating the list of logins associated with the project
  • Providing GRICAD with a list of publications, images or information relating to the calculation project.
  • In the case of a project that consumes a lot of common resources (qualification decided by the COSTU GRICAD), provide an activity report that can be included in any reporting document produced by GRICAD.

In return, GRICAD will provide a consumption report and any advice it may provide. Projects that have not been updated will be deactivated: users who are members of the project group concerned will no longer be able to access the resources associated with this project.

Eligibility

Depending on the user’s situation, their request is examined by one or more [COSTU GRICAD] referents (../gricad/governance#le-costu) according to the table below:

User Referent(s)
————————————– ————————————————————————————————–
Member of a EPE UGA lab Scientific and technical managers from COSTU
External university member Original mesocentre manager + managers (sc. & tech.) of the scientific pole concerned
Member of a company Company unit = 1 MaiMoSiNE representant + 2 managers (sc. & tech.) from GRICAD

The referees assess the suitability of the request and grant access to the resources. The academic applicant is a permanent member of his/her laboratory. The user may be a temporary member (doctoral student, post-doc) or a collaborator of a permanent member.
