OpenAlex, the growing buzz in research
Oct 9, 2026
Online
Monday 19 october, 1:30–2:00 pm & Tuesday 20 october, 1:30–2:00 pm
Haven’t heard of it yet? OpenAlex is a bibliographic and bibliometric tool, like WoS (Clarivate), Scopus (Elsevier) or Google Scholar. It is shaking up this landscape: it is free to use with no subscription, its data can be freely reused, and it is not produced by a commercial company but is a common good.
Here are two webinars to discover the tool, as part of Open Access Week :
Monday 19 October, 1:30–2:00 pm: Why is everyone talking about it and how do you use it?
Maxence Larrieu - GRICAD, who has been working with bibliometric tools for about ten years Laurent Perrillat - DGD BAPSO, Deputy Director of Research Support and Open Science (Direction de l’Appui à la Recherche et à la Science Ouverte), historian
Tuesday 20 October, 1:30–2:00 pm: Under the hood: API, data and code
Maxence Larrieu - GRICAD, who has been working with bibliometric tools for about ten years Baptiste Lefeuvre - GRICAD, software developer supporting research
In these two 30-minute sessions, we will explain how OpenAlex is changing research work. For decades, searching for scientific publications, extracting publication lists, comparing journals and reading indicators have been shaped by tools that OpenAlex is now disrupting. We will put this ongoing change in context and explain the key things to understand about the tool.
The two sessions are independent: you can attend one, the other or both. Both are given in French.
