Collaborations and partnerships

The UAR GRICAD is part of its ecosystem by developing partnerships at various levels:

Local collaborations

GRICAD relies on close links with Grenoble laboratories through an original human model.

This model is based on shared positions with several laboratories:

  • the Institute of Environmental Geosciences
  • the Jean Kuntzmann Laboratory
  • the PACTE laboratory, a social sciences laboratory

In addition to these shared posts, people from several laboratories play a very active role in the operation of shared infrastructures (both those operated by GRICAD and those operated by other structures on the site), through letters of assignment drawn up bilaterally between GRICAD and the laboratory to which they belong:

  • Jean Kuntzmann Laboratory (LJK)
  • Institute of Earth Sciences (ISTerre)
  • Interdisciplinary Physics Laboratory (LiPhy)
  • Grenoble Institute of Planetology and Astrophysics (IPAG)
  • Grenoble Observatory of the Sciences of the Universe (OSUG)
  • the Direction des Systèmes d’Informations Mutualisés de l’UGA (DSIM, formerly SIMSU)
  • Grenoble Electrical Engineering Laboratory (G2ELAB)
  • Department of Molecular Chemistry (DCM)
  • Verimag
  • Grenoble Computer Science Laboratory (LIG)
  • Subatomic Physics and Cosmology Laboratory (LPSC)
  • UFR Informatique Mathématiques et Mathématiques Appliquées (IM2AG) (Computer Science, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics Department)

The Unit has very close links with MaiMoSiNE, a Federative Research Structure at the interface between the university and industry, whose main mission is to promote multidisciplinary initiatives in the field of modelling, simulation and intensive computing. In particular, MaiMoSiNE is one of the seven regional platforms selected for the ‘Local and tailored support’ part of the SiMSEO project, which aims to facilitate access to digital simulation and intensive computing for French SMEs. The SiMSEO programme is coordinated at national level by Teratec and Genci. GRICAD is supporting MaiMoSiNE by providing hardware resources.

EFinally, GRICAD has a privileged partnership with the other structures providing digital services on the site:

  • the DSIs of the institutions (DGDSI UGA and DSI Grenoble-INP),
  • the Direction des Systèmes d’Informations Mutualisés de l’UGA (DSIM, formerly SIMSU)
  • the Maison des Sciences de l’Homme - Alpes (MSH Alpes)

In addition to these strong collaborations, GRICAD obviously interacts with all the laboratories on the site that use its services, and also with the MACI (Maison de la Création et de l’Innovation).

National collaborations

GRICAD is part of the computing pyramid as a Tier 2 at the Grenoble site. The unit interacts with its Tier 2 counterparts at other sites through various projects, in particular as part of the MesoNET project, in which GRICAD is heavily involved.

GRICAD works in close collaboration with Tier 1 (national centres, in particular IDRIS and CINES) and GENCI (Grand Equipement National pour le Calcul Intensif). Finally, the unit also interacts, particularly at the technical level, with other national structures such as :

  • France Grille
  • the IN2P3 Computing Centre (CC IN2P3)
  • Grid'5000, which recently became SILECS

The collaboration with Grid'5000 is very important and has existed for many years. This article explains this synergy.
