Internal organization

The different teams

GRICAD is organised into 5 teams:

  • System: system administration of the platforms, their operation and technological monitoring activities associated with the infrastructures,

  • Scientific Computing and Development: in charge of supporting research projects with needs in scientific computing, algorithms, data engineering and complex execution chains. It’s also in charge of events and training and involved in GRICAD user support activities,

  • Open Science - Data Codes and Software: coordination of the UGA’s Data Unit (CDGA), which provides support for researchers in managing research data, codes and software,

  • Artificial Intelligence and Development: in charge of supporting research projects requiring expertise in the field of artificial intelligence and the implementation of data processing challenges. It also provides support for GRICAD users, as well as training and events based on the expertise of its engineers.

  • Cross-functional team: in charge of the unit’s administrative and financial operations, communication and audio-visual production activities.

Links with surrounding infrastructures: an original human model

GRICAD is one of the partner structures in the site’s digital infrastructure dynamic, alongside the institutions’ IT departments, the DSIM (formerly SIMSU), the laboratories and the teaching components.

The infrastructures are operated by technical committees made up of people from all these different structures. This organisation fosters close links with the research teams and increases the skills of the people involved in the projects. The involvement of these people is recognised through the establishment of mission letters. Many people are involved in using the infrastructure available on the Grenoble site for research, teaching and administration.

GRICAD’s members are therefore equally involved, both in the services based on its own infrastructures and managed by the unit, and in the operation of the infrastructures managed mainly by the UGA’s IT Department.

The technical committees help to streamline the management of an infrastructure by closely involving the main users and the members of the GRICAD teams concerned. Engineers and technicians from various research units on the Grenoble site are heavily involved in the technical committees of our services.
