New Guide to Shared Digital Services at UGA: Get into the right digital habits!

May 28, 2026

As part of the “Compétences et métiers d’avenir” VerIT project, and at the initiative of Françoise Berthoud, research engineer at GRICAD, University of Grenoble Alpes (UGA) is publishing a practical guide dedicated to shared digital services. This document is intended for all staff members (including administrative and academic staff) and aims to:

  • Raise awareness of existing digital services,
  • Encourage their use and adoption,
  • Support the evolution of digital practices

Toward a digital ecosystem that is efficient, secure, and sustainable.

Why share digital services?

Shared services help address several key challenges:

  • Quality: reliable, secure, and high-performance tools
  • Collaboration: shared and harmonised solutions
  • Digital sustainability: reduced environmental impact and lower costs.

The guiding principle is: Share resources to work better, not to do more. Before using a service, users are encouraged to:

  1. Clearly identify their needs
  2. Prioritize existing solutions whenever possible
  3. Adopt responsible digital practices

A guide organized by usage

The document presents services in three categories:

  • Services available to all users (e.g. Nextcloud, Zimbra)
  • Services dedicated to research (e.g. GitLab, high-performance computing, notebooks)
  • Services accessible through local IT support services (e.g. FALL, SUMMER, WINTER)
