Governance

Governance structures

The UAR GRICAD has several complementary governance structures:

  • a steering committee (COPIL), made up of representatives of the unit’s various supervisory boards (CNRS, UGA, G-INP, INRIA). Meeting once a year, its role is to :
    • coordinate the unit’s development with the needs and services of the site
    • define the unit’s short- and medium-term strategic orientations
  • a management committee (CODIR), made up of the management team and the team leaders. It meets twice a week and is responsible for :
    • arbitrate on the unit’s scientific, technical and financial decisions, taking into account the strategic guidelines adopted by the COPIL.
    • manage the day-to-day running of the unit (finance, HR, matching resources to activities)
    • provide input for the unit’s strategic thinking
  • a scientific and technical users’ committee (COSTU). See details below.
  • several specialised technical committees (CT):
    • Each service offered by GRICAD is associated with a technical committee responsible for its operation (support, maintenance and infrastructure development) according to user needs.

The COSTU

Role

Since 2018, a users’ committee has been formalised, the main aim of which is to ensure that infrastructures and services are steered by research.

In order to put users’ needs at the heart of the UAR’s concerns, the role of the COmité Scientifique et Technique des Utilisateurs (COSTU) is to maintain a strong link between the services offered and the needs of research.

The main objective of the GRICAD COSTU is to help the UAR GRICAD to steer the development of the research infrastructures and services it offers in the areas of scientific computing, software development for research and research data management.

It is made up of users of GRICAD services, who are representative of their community and have a global vision of the use and needs of this community in terms of services and digital infrastructures. It provides a forum for discussion between these users, the GRICAD Management Committee (CODIR) and the TCs. The members of the COSTU also relay information between their research community and GRICAD.

Mission

The COSTU is consulted, at the request of GRICAD’s CODIR, or makes proposals on its own initiative, on the following subjects:

  • the operation of services, platforms and support, and feedback on user requirements ;
  • forward planning in terms of future projects, equipment acquisition and deployment;
  • strategic orientations concerning the evolution or deployment of services and infrastructures managed by GRICAD.

The COSTU, with its cross-disciplinary vision of uses, must facilitate links between the scientific communities. It also has an active role to play in identifying training needs and disseminating the services on offer.

Composition

The composition of COSTU aims to be representative of the scientific communities, and is based on the research divisions of the Université Grenoble Alpes. COSTU is made up of researchers, lecturers and engineers. It is made up of active users of services and infrastructures who are representative of their community, working in pairs or in triads to ensure that they are present at meetings and that there is a diversity of viewpoints when it comes to validating projects that will give access to our services. It is made up of co-opted members, each of whom signs up for a renewable 2-year term. It meets once or twice a year.
