Our services

GRICAD offers services related to scientific computing and data. The unit manages its own infrastructure and participates in the site's infrastructure. Access to GRICAD's own services is open to all academic researchers from the EPE Université Grenoble Alpes (see below for eligibility). Details about access policy are provided below.

Access to services policy

GRICAD's services are freely accessible to all academic researchers at the Grenoble site of a EPE UGA institution and to all their collaborators in the context of research projects (except for audiovisual production services which are subject to pricing).

They may also be open to the private sector on an ad hoc basis in certain cases, in particular in the case of joint research projects with academic researchers, or within the framework of the SIMSEO initiative in which GRICAD and MaiMoSiNe are partners.

Access to infrastructures is subject to the acceptance of IT charters.

Platforms may be shut down for maintenance or in the case of incidents. The service may deteriorate during university holidays, and support service is not provided on weekends and public holidays.

Access is free, in the event of heavy use, we encourage financial and human participation for these shared infrastructures:

  • Purchase of servers (computing, storage)
  • Purchase of computing hours
  • Operating or investment financing
  • Assistance to teams in charge of infrastructure administration and/or support

How to access the infrastructures ?

Depending on your situation, the terms and conditions are as follows. As a reminder, the request for an access account is made via the user portal.

You lead a new project
You do not have an access account. You must first request a GRICAD access account. Your eligibility will be verified at that time. You will also need to accept the user policy.

You already have an access account
You must then establish a request to create a project with which a project group will be associated. You can then add members to your project group at will and grant access rights to the corresponding computing resources. The conditions for creating and renewing projects are described in the following paragraph (Project Management).

You are a user wishing to join a project
You do not have an access account. You must first request a GRICAD access account. Your eligibility will be verified at that time. You will also need to accept the user policy.
You already have an access account. You must ask the project manager to add you to his or her group project. The list of projects and project leaders can be obtained in your personal space.

Project leaders must, at least once a year and for each project, carry out an update which consists of:
  • Validate the list of logins associated with the project
  • Provide GRICAD with a list of publications, images or information related to the calculation project
  • In the case of a project that consumes a lot of common resources (qualification decided by COSTU GRICAD, provide an activity report that can be included in any reporting document produced by GRICAD.
In return, GRICAD will provide an assessment of possible consumptions and advice. For projects that have not been updated, they will be disabled: users who are members of the relevant project group will no longer be able to access the resources associated with this project.

Eligibility

Depending on the user's situation, his request is examined by one or more referents of the COSTU GRICAD according to the table below:

User Referent(s)
Member of a EPE UGA laboratory Scientific and technical managers from the COSTU
External academic member Home mesocentre manager + referents (sc. & tech.) of the scientific pole concerned
Member of a company Company cell = 1 manager MaiMoSiNE + 2 managers (scientific and technical GRICAD)
The referents judge the adequacy of the request and grant access to resources. The university applicant is a permanent member of his or her laboratory. The user can be a temporary member (doctoral, post-doc) or a collaborator of a permanent member.
